Now comes your chance to shine—or in this case, to ontperform the market and your Core holdings. Depending on your particular time frame and tolerance for risk, you can invest anywhere from 40% to 60% of your portfolio in Explore holdings (refer back to Figure 3.3 on page 85), which may include buying international equities, nontraditional asset classes such as REITs or hedge funds, or simply emphasizing a particular company, sector, size, or style. Two ways to do this are by buying actively managed funds and individual stocks, or a mix of the two.
